Centuries ago, God delivered Israel out of slavery from Egypt and brought the children of Israel to Himself in the wilderness. He proposed to them a covenant which they accepted. A covenant creates kinship. You may be related to another person by blood or by a marriage covenant. God had joined Himself to Israel by a marriage covenant. Thus, Israel became a wife to God. It is believed by many that this historical event took place on what would have been the Day of Pentecost since it occurred in the third month of the Hebrew calendar. In like fashion, will Jesus Christ marry His Bride, the Church of God, on a future Pentecost? While God was faithful to His covenant promises, Israel often fell short and turned aside to other gods. God sent many prophets to give warning in hope that Israel would return to Him. The time came when God decided to demonstrate His faithful love through the prophet Hosea. The story of Hosea and God’s faithfulness is beautifully told by Dave Rebbettes. It is a fitting story that you will find inspiring for Pentecost and our own betrothal to Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2). “So, I will betroth you to Me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in loving devotion and compassion. And I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will know the LORD” (Hosea 2:19-20). Here is the link to the short video on Hosea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npmPFysJh4k |
