Have you ever had a strong thought at the front of your mind only to have it slip away due to a distraction or other thoughts crowding in? Then it drives you “bananas” trying to recall that inspired thought that may have been the answer to your question or problem. Pretty frustrating when our brains don’t work at their optimum. Losing our memory as we get older is something that everyone dreads. Without our memories, we also lose our sense of identity. It may be good to forget certain bad experiences. Yet, every experience that we retain in our memories, even painful ones, shapes our spiritual makeup and character. Without memory, you would have to learn to tie your shoes all over again every day. Good reason to go barefoot or just buy slip-ons. That is if you can remember where you left them. If any of you have family members who are suffering with dementia or Alzheimer’s, then you know the pain of watching the deterioration of their cognitive capacity. It is like a living death. It is no wonder that dementia is feared even more than cancer. I and my sisters have had our own personal experience with our mom’s cognitive decline from dementia which eventually took her life. But it can never erase our memory of her. God will someday restore her mind and all her wonderful memories. God speed that day! There has been much research into the cause of dementia and Alzheimer’s. Why has it become so prevalent during a time of increased medical knowledge? Are there any good answers out there? It is sometimes hard to find good answers because of conflicting information. Our modern medicine is largely controlled by the pharmaceutical industry. There is big money in patented medicines that offer some hope of relief of many chronic conditions that plague us human “rats.” Largely, we are victims of our modern lifestyle which often ignores basic truths of nature and as revealed in God’s Word. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you as My priests since you have ignored the law of your God” (Hosea 4:6). With all the increase in knowledge of various science fields, we think that we are smarter than God. We think that our scientific method of obtaining truth will allow us to solve any problem facing the human race. Too often, among smug “enlightened” professors God’s Word has become regarded as mere fables created by superstitious people who lived long ago. Modern man thinks that he has advanced beyond such primitive and outdated knowledge recorded centuries ago. But God makes this indictment: “My people are fools; they do not know Me. They are senseless children; they have no understanding. They are skilled in doing evil; they know not how to do good” (Jeremiah 4:22). We think that we can put whatever we want into our bodies without any negative consequences from the natural laws that God put into force. Often, this is done in ignorance since we have been duped by the modern food industry which worships Almighty Profit. It is hoped that Robert Kennedy, Jr. will have some real power to begin to cut through the lies and misleading propaganda that is wrecking the health of millions while lining the pockets of leaders in the food and medical industry. If you are interested in learning one likely cause of dementia and thereby avoid falling victim to this dreaded scourge in your old age, then I urge you to watch the video linked below. This interview with Dr. Richard Johnson reveals the effects of fructose upon our brains. Fructose is the natural sugar found in fruit. God put it there for a reason. But our modern diets have pushed our consumption of fructose beyond healthy lifestyles. There are other possible causes of dementia which I have come across. But I do believe that heavy fructose consumption by my mom was one factor in her mental decline. In our world of convenience, it is impossible to avoid all the things that may not be the best thing to consume. Like anything else, finding a balance is important in creating a diet plan for following. “Let your moderation be known to all men. The Lord is watching!” (Philippians 4:5).
