America is going the way of ancient Rome. ROMANIZED AMERICA: PLEASURE & VIOLENCE By the Numbers: America, like the ancient Roman Empire, is obsessed with pleasure, leisure, violent sports (football, boxing, wrestling). Roman mass entertainment became increasingly violent with gladiatorial combat in the Roman Colosseum Arena. State sponsored sporting events: 93 days (A.D. 59; Emperor Claudius). Official yearly holidays: 159 days. By A.D. 354: 200 official yearly holidays. 175 days were public games. LOST WORK ETHIC: The Roman six-hour workday, ending around 2 p.m., allowed time to indulge in gladiatorial sporting, chariot races at the hippodrome, and theater. The 50,000 seat Roman Colosseum finished and dedicated in A.D. 80, was celebrated with 100 days of games. AMERICA ON THE SAME PATH: US average workday is about 7 hours (counting holidays, vacation, sick leave). The US has 11 Federal holidays. Government offices close an additional 104 times each year (weekends). This does not include public schools’ non-contracted closings 108 days each year (including weekends). TOTAL US Federal and State: 115 days per year [Rome: 200] State sponsored sporting events in 14,800 US public school districts (grades 10-12) is nearly 223 years of total hours per year at state expense! GOVERNMENTAL INTRUSION Rome, America: Erosion of a moral base and work ethic brings society’s demise through growing government control-intrusion into private life (strangling regulations, taxes; US tax: 35 cents per dollar, inflation’s stealth tax (2100% since 1913!), fuel tax avg. 18 cents per gal). Roman governmental dependency (welfare), and overextended military expenditures (US 900 military bases worldwide: 900) were its demise. Sound familiar? SHORTER TIME: The Roman Empire’s three periods of the Kings of Imperial Rome (753 BC to 476 AD) lasted for over 1000 years. America, 1776 A.D. to…. is on the precipice of a similar fate in a much shorter time. **** ROMAN EMPIRE WITH ITS “eternal city [Rome]” WAS NOT “TOO BIG TO FALL,” ARE WE? **** —————————————————————————————————— See Gary Miller’s other articles at: Miller, Gary C. – Church of God, Bismarck (church-of-god-bismarck.org) Reprinted with permission from: International Congregation of Yahweh http://www.icyahweh.org/ —————————————————————————————————— |
