What is wormwood? Where is it located in the Bible? What does it mean? How is it related to the prophetic Day of the Lord? Wormwood, in the Old Testament, is derived from a Hebrew word meaning bitterness or to curse (Strong’s Concordance #H3939). It was considered cursed since it was regarded as poisonous. Given that the word is found, in the KJV Bible, seven times in seven verses (Deuteronomy 29:18, Proverbs 5:4, Jeremiah 9:15, 23:15, Lamentations 3:15, 19 and Amos 5:7) it may symbolize complete bitterness or a perfect poison. In the latter regard, it is interesting to note that the Hebrew word behind wormwood is translated as “hemlock” in Amos 6:12 (KJV). Wormwood is actually a plant, or more precisely a low woody shrub, with small green leaves and greenish-yellow flowers. Four species of this plant, in the genus Artemisia, were known to flourish in the dry desert regions of Palestine and Syria. They are A. nilotica, A. Judaica, A. fructicosa and A. cinerea (Smith’s Bible Dictionary). In modern times, A. Judaica is found only in the Sinai while A. herba-alba (also considered a wormwood plant) is common in the Holy Land (Tyndale Bible Dictionary). The plant has a bitter taste and a strong aroma. It is sometimes Biblically equated with gall (Jeremiah 9:15, 23:15, Lamentations 3:19), a bitter poison that was offered to Jesus as he was being crucified (Matthew 27:33 – 34). New Testament usage In the New Testament, wormwood is found twice in a single verse. Now the name of the star is Wormwood; and a third of the waters became wormwood; and many men died from drinking the waters because they were made bitter (Revelation 8:11, HBFV). The word’s use in Revelation is during an end-time period known as the Day of the Lord. This period kicked off when the prophetic seventh seal is opened (Revelation 8:1), signifies God’s punishment of the world’s Babylonish system and those who follow it. The wormwood of Revelation is not a plant but possibly a large meteor or star that, when it strikes the earth, makes a third of our drinkable water lethal to consume. Modern use Absinthe, an emerald, green drink with a high alcohol content, is made from A. absinthium (considered a grand wormwood herb) and other aromatic plants. The herb is native to Eurasia and North Africa, with it also being found in the United States and Canada. Although the drink was banned in America in 1912, the ban was lifted in 2007 but with restrictions. |

Quote from the article: “Now the name of the star is Wormwood; and a third of the waters became wormwood; and many men died from drinking the waters because they were made bitter (Revelation 8:11, HBFV). The word’s use in Revelation is during an end-time period known as the Day of the Lord. The wormwood of Revelation is not a plant but possibly a large meteor or star that, when it strikes the earth, makes a third of our drinkable water lethal to consume.” Apophis “Apophis was discovered on June 19, 2004, by Roy A. Tucker, David J. Tholen and Fabrizio Bernardi whilst working at the Kitt Peak National Observatory. The object was identified at the time as 2004 MN4. … In 2005, the asteroid was renamed “Apophis” after the Greek name for an ancient Egyptian representation of evil, a serpent that dwells in darkness and frequently attempts to devour the sun-god Ra as he makes his nightly passage across the sky. Classified as an “S-Type” or stoney-type asteroid, according to NASA, Apophis also contains a mix of metals like nickel and iron. Its shape is believed to be elongated and comprising of two lobes — almost like a rocky space peanut. On Friday, April 13, 2029, Earth will experience a dramatic close encounter with the asteroid 99942 Apophis. The 1,120 feet (340-meter) wide object will pass within just 19,000 miles (31,000 km) of our home planet — a distance that brings it closer than most geostationary satellites.” From: https://www.space.com/apophis Will it hit Planet Earth? “Now, you may have seen recently where NASA is repeating their position that Apophis will likely not impact earth in 2029 but will instead barely skim safely past the world while knocking out some of the satellites in orbit around our planet. But just one of many scientists is warning that NASA’s trajectory calculation of Apophis is off by as much as six hundred thousand miles, which Harry Lear implies could very well send Apophis crashing into earth just eight years from now. Lear sent an open letter to the president and US government scientists begging them to cross check these calculations immediately, even though he ends his dispatch with an ominous admonition that we may already be out of time. Besides Lear, top-one hundred scientist Nathan Myhrvold, in a recent peer-reviewed paper, “An Empirical Examination of WISE/NEOWISE Asteroid Analysis and Results,” refutes much of the data from NASA and in fact charges them with deliberately misreporting threats by near-earth objects and of behaving “extremely deceptively: with deliberate “scientific misconduct” in a cover-up of very real and potentially imminent space threats. Even famous planetary scientist and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson admits that, on April 13, 2029: Apophis will come so close to Earth that it will dip below our orbiting communication satellites. It will be the largest closest thing we have ever observed to come by earth…the orbit we now have for it is UNCERTAIN…because these things are hard to measure and hard to get an exact distance for—WE CANNOT TELL YOU EXACTLY WHERE THAT TRAJECTORY WILL BE.” (Emphasis added)” From the Book: Zeitgeist 2025 by Tom Horn (Pages 1 and 2) My Take: I felt this was important enough to let everyone know some of the facts in regard to “Apophis.” I have no idea whether it will hit earth on April 13, 2029, but it sure looks like a real possibility. |
